ourspace : is the project name for redeveloping the communal gardens and garage area for properties on Baildon Road, Windermere Avenue, Grasmere Drive and Selworthy Road - which is being undertaken by NS Housing and South Ward Neighbourhood Management Partnership with White Design as the designers.
This website is designed to keep you up to date with what is happening and also a way for you to give us feedback on what you think and what you would like to see in the garden.
Alongside the communal gardens, NS Housing are also improving the ramps and railings which has started and will continue into next year.
If you have ideas for the garden, we want to hear them!!
Please either use this website to comment or contact us, or ring Vicki on 01934 426736, email her at victoria.rooke@n-somerset.gov.uk or pop into the Healthy Living Centre and ask for her at reception.
LATEST NEWS!
Planning Approval granted

We have recently received the letter from North Somerset Council granting permission for us to build the new gardens. Soon we will decide who will build your gardens and we expect them to start work some time in July or August.
As you may know, the design provides garden spaces for each block, except Grasmere 1 and 2, who will share a garden. We have recently asked each block to choose what will be in their garden and hopefully we will be able to incorporate these into the build.
If you have any questions or comments, you can call in at the Healthy Living Centre reception for a member of the Neighbourhood Management Team, who will be happy to come down and talk to you.
Or feel free to comment via this web site.
consultation events

On Saturday 28th November, between 11am and 2pm, we held a consultation event in a marquee in ourspace.
A number of residents turned up to take part in our cool-table which used cards with themed images relating to gardens. Residents threw these into boxes depending upon whether they thought they were 'seriously un-cool', 'un-cool', 'cool' or 'sub-zero' (very nice!). White Design have counted these up and some of the images are shown in the four slideshows below:

Thanks for asking our opinion, but now we have seen the model it turns out you are going to do what you told us you was going to do before you asked us, so our opinion dont count then. All you are creating is a nice place for people to sit DRINKING & SMOKING & making loads of noise in the summer. It would be more useful to have secure parking & some decent sheds to put bikes & other things in. THANKS A LOT.

Yvonne,
Thanks for your comment and we are sorry that you are disappointed with our design.
The design and the model have been developed following a series of consultations which have taken place since the summer of 2009.
What people have told us which we have tried to reflect in the design is that:
+ People want garden spaces that related directly to their blocks - spaces that they can use and make their own. We have been able to achieve that in all but one block, where Grasmere and Selworthy overlap.
+ Greater sense of privacy and security in the garden area. We are addressing this by controlling access to the garden
+ Communal spaces - places that all residents can use if they want to.
+ Safe and secure storage for bikes - secure cycle storage is included in the design. Not only is this within the gated, resident only area, but is itself secure and gated with lock access.
+ Secure shed space. We intend to work with individual blocks to work out what they need in their garden - things like sheds, robust washing lines and planting will be considered then. Until then, we have deliberately left them fairly empty.
+ More secure parking is part of the scheme. The option we would like to discuss with residents is street-side parking adjacent to properties - swapping parking facilities from 'back of house' to the front in an area where there is more natural surveillance.
We are sorry that you don't feel that the designs meet your personal needs, but we are confident that we can at least address some of your concerns during the rest of the design process.
